What is OSAP & TSS Pathway 1?

OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 may apply to eligible applicants under the Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP) or Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) program, depending on occupation and current requirements.

The main difference between OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 and OSAP & TSS Pathway 2 is whether you already hold a recognised Australian qualification in the trade you wish to get assessed in.

Choose OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 if you do not currently hold a relevant Australian qualification, and you’re applying to have your trade skills assessed based on your work experience, skills, and knowledge.

OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 Eligibility

To apply under OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 for non-licensed trades, you must meet the following minimum employment requirements:

  • At least 5 years of verifiable paid employment in your nominated occupation if you do not have formal training
  • At least 3 years of verifiable paid employment in your nominated occupation if you have relevant formal training

Note that you need to have worked in this occupation for at least 12 months in the last 3 years prior to submitting your application.

OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 Assessment Process

Step 1: Collate your evidence and start your application

Prepare documents that show you meet the OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 requirements, including employment history, qualifications (if applicable), and identity documents.

Ensure all documents are clear, complete, and ready for review.

We review your submitted documents to confirm eligibility, employment history, and whether the OSAP & TSS Pathway 1 requirements have been met.

We may contact referees or request further information where required.

If you progress from Stage 1, you may be invited to complete a technical assessment.

Depending on your occupation, this may include:

  • technical interview
  • trade knowledge questions
  • practical evidence or tasks where required

Once your assessment is finalised, you will receive the relevant TRA outcome documentation for your pathway.

Where applicable, this may include a migration outcome letter or qualification-related outcome.
