A trade skills assessment checks whether your skills and work experience meet the Australian standards for your nominated trade occupation. This is commonly required as a part of a visa application process depending on your occupation and visa pathway.

Trade Assess Australia, as an appointed TRA Assessor for Carpentry, Cabinetmaking, and Painting and Decorating, can help you with your trades assessment.

Do I Need a Skills Assessment?

A skills assessment is often required for skilled visa pathways and is used to assess whether your skills and experience align with the skill standard expected for your nominated occupation in Australia. Your first step is to confirm whether a skills assessment is required for your visa.

Both OSAP and TSS assess your trade skills and employment evidence against Australian workplace expectations. The program used depends on why you need the skills assessment for your visa pathway.

Job Ready Program (JRP)

Trade Assess Australia also offers assessment under the Job Ready Program (JRP). JRP is for international applicants who have studied and completed their qualification in Australia who need to demonstrate their skills and workplace competency in Australia as part of their journey. JRP placements are not chosen by applicants or arranged through this website. Where Trade Assess Australia is appointed to conduct JRP assessments, eligible applicants will be allocated to us through TRA.

Choose Your Assessment Pathway

After determining your skills assessment program (OSAP or TSS), the next step is to select the pathway that matches your background.

Select your pathway based on whether you hold a relevant Australian qualification

OSAP & TSS Pathway 1
for applicants who do not have an Australian
qualification.

To apply, you will need to provide documentary evidence of your employment history, skills, and trade knowledge. We will review your evidence against the relevant requirements. If your application progresses, you may be invited to complete a technical interview and, where required, a practical assessment.

Successful applicants may receive an Australian qualification for non-licensed trades and a Successful Skills Assessment Result Letter. If you are not successful, you may be eligible to apply for a review or reassessment (subject to the applicable rules and timeframes).

for applicants who have an Australian
qualification.

To apply, you will need to provide evidence of your Australian qualification, as well as evidence of relevant work experience. We will assess your documents against the relevant requirements. If your application progresses, you may be invited to complete a technical interview.
